pattern recognition
what it is + how to move on
hi friend,
"Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate." — Carl Jung
whether you’re 24 or 40, after a point you can easily spot the kind of person you’re dealing with.
they make the same mistakes.
they beg for the same apologies.
they repeat their childhood patterns and behaviours.
you can only help someone when they want to be helped.
not everyone deserves an answer from you.
there will always be someone better, more educated, more qualified.
trust me.
I’ve spent the last 2 years trying to help everyone around me - “friends”, “colleagues”, “sports teams”, all of it.
you must know when to get up and leave and reclaim your self-worth.
here's what I've learned about patterns since then:
1) they're quiet
they don't announce themselves, but show up in the background - in the relationships you choose, the excuses you make, the moment you pull back right before things get good.
2) they're not your fault, but they are your responsibility
I watched Good Will Hunting the other night and loved the scene where Robin Williams repeatedly told Matt Damon, “it’s not your fault”. A lot of our patterns were formed when we were young, trying to cope with things we didn't have the tools for yet. We can all practice a little bit of compassion.
3) they only change when you see them
responsibility makes all the difference. the patterns I see most often (in myself and in the people I work with): self-sabotage right before a breakthrough. this delays the blessings that are waiting for them on the other side of the spectrum.
we’ve got to learn that patterns can be interrupted and changed.
step 1 is to spot them.
homework for this week:
notice them.
notice the patterns you’ve been repeating for years.
we won’t fix them today.
all I want you is to notice them.
P.S. Whenever you're ready, here are 2 ways that I can help you:
1:1 coaching to transform your mindset, perform better, and thrive (PAID PROGRAM)
Workshops to help you unpack mental performance tools and techniques (PAID PROGRAM)
