Negative Visualisation

followed by the Stoics

hi friend,

“Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now, take what’s left and live it properly.” - Marcus Aurelius

the Stoics definitely knew things that we didn’t.

today, we’ll be talking about negative visualisation and how you can use it to combat the obstacles and challenges life will inevitably throw your way.

What is negative visualisation?

we visualise the best outcome.

today, let’s flip the script.

now, imagine the worst possible thing that can happen.

the worst.

take it a degree further.

yup, even further.

how do you react?

what’s your immediate response?

do you choose to run or face the situation at hand?

it sounds counterproductive, but this simple exercise brings you more clarity and peace of mind.

when your brain anticipates both the best and the worst outcome, it’s preparing how to respond.

so that when you do experience it, you’re ready to aim and fire the shot.

3 ways to use it this week:

  1. At work

    imagine not closing a deal

    a failed product launch

    your cash flow is tanking

    what do you do?

  2. In a relationship

the one person you love leaves you

your bestfriend suddenly doesn’t care about you

a family member stabs you in the back and watches you bleed

  3. Your health

    you can’t run that 10k

suddenly a prolonged injury comes up again

the sport that’s given you a sense of identity can’t be played any longer

notice how all these situations demand you to imagine the worst?

that’s the point.

suffering is a beautiful experience if you choose to adapt, learn, and grow from it.

choose that.

P.S. Whenever you’re ready, here are 2 ways that I can help you:

  1.   1:1 coaching to transform your mindset, perform better, and thrive

  2.  Workshops to help you unpack mental performance tools and techniques
